Cernobbio, a few kilometres away from Como, has been a small town on the lake with legislative autonomy since the medieval time; a little jewel nestled between the western shore of Lario and the panoramic Bisbino mountain, on the Swiss borders.
Ever since, Cernobbio is renowned for the beauty of its landscape, often commemorated by many artists, writers and poets.
Besides being one of the most charming locations on Como Lake, it is also an entertaining and glamorous place, where the climate is always mild, being protected by Bisbino mountain. Villa d’Este overlooks the lake: a villa from the 16th century, dwell of the princess of Galles, Caroline from Brunswick, today it hosts a luxury hotel with royal decors and a charming garden.
The filmmaker Luchino Visconti stayed in Villa Erba, a villa from the 19th century, property of his mother, Calra Erba. Nowadays, the villa is used as congress centre and it still maintains the sumptuous rooms and the elegant park.
